Jade Goody has been banned from driving for not having a license
The shamed Celebrity Big Brother reality TV star Jade Goody pleaded guilty to driving without a full licence or insurance on two recent occasions but claimed it was a ‘genuine mistake’.Jade Goody’s lawyer Philip Kelly told Basildon magistrates on the 04.07.07:
‘A little over three years ago Miss Goody passed her driving test and she believed the Driving Standards Agency would notify the DVLA of her success.
‘It was not a case of deliberately driving without the required documentation. I invite the court to accept it was a genuine mistake.’
Jade Goody’s lawyer told magistrates she should not be banned from driving as she receives abuse when she travels on public transport. It seems that after the Paris Hilton episode that driving offences receive little sympathy either side of the Atlantic.
The former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ contestant was accused of racism following her treatment of Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty on this year’s ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ show. Jade Goody was removed from the show after public outcry over the alleged racism caused such ‘negative’ ratings that even Channel 4’s use of public funding was questioned.
Jade Goody’s licence was suspended for six months and she must join boyfriend Jack Tweed on public transport as he was banned from driving for a year in March for drink driving.
Jade was also fined £1,450 plus £90 costs.
